Our History

 

The forerunner to the present day Alta Moda chain was a textile wholesale business that was established in 1984. The business was run as a partnership, owned and managed by a group of businessmen based in Indonesia and Singapore.

 

In the early years the business concentrated primarily on importing budget fabrics for the price-sensitive Indonesian market. As the Indonesian economy grew, demand for quality fabrics increased in tandem and the partnership responded by filling that niche of the market. Encouraged by the demand for high-fashion fabrics, the business focus changed to importing high end fabrics from leading fashion houses of Europe.

 

In 1994, the partners saw potential in moving the business downstream into retailing. Working directly with consumers would put them in the frontline and provide an opportunity to understand market trends and needs better. This gave birth to Alta Moda and the rest, as they say, is history.

 

Products that Alta Moda carries haute couture from reputed fashion designers such as Valentino, Emanuel Ungaro, Scabal and Ermenegildo Zegna, to name a few. The range of fabrics is wide and includes exclusive French chiffon and laces, printed Italian silk etc. Specialty silk and fine lace with beads and sequins are readily available as are high quality cottons, linen, satin and viscose.

 

Intricate laces and chiffon embellished with colored Swarovsky crystals and semi-cultured pearls are a dream for fashion enthusiasts. Costing US$1,000 per meter and upward they epitomize the very best of European haute couture. Alta Moda also retails an exclusive range of designer shirting and suiting material for men.

 

Apart from fabrics, Alta Moda offers in-house design services where customers can request the store’s designer to create something appropriate for a specific occasion or just daily wear in fabrics of their choice. Customers are free to bring these sketches with the purchased fabrics to their tailors. In addition to this, tailoring services for men’s formal wear is available at most Alta Moda stores.

Recent Developments Earlier this year Alta Moda launched its first Boutique at the Pacific Mall in Jakarta. This concept presents an entirely new experience in shopping for fabrics. The look of Alta Moda has been changed to reflect the company’s desire to offer customers the highest standards of service combined with an array of exclusive ‘one-of-a-kind’ designer fabrics. Its success is sure to spawn more boutiques in the near future.

 

Plans for growth include increasing the regional presence by opening more stores in other South-east Asian countries. There are also plans to expand market coverage by adding stores such as Centro Moda and Pronto Moda that cater to different price segments within the textile market. Pronto is modeled around a textile superstore concept that offers fabrics at varying price levels to a wider market.

 

Promotion: Every year in summer, Alta Moda opens its shops for an annual mega sale where luxury fabrics can be afforded by most who walk in. It is a much awaited event where customers look forward to purchasing branded fabrics at discounted prices. There are also the yearly visits of winners of the Miss Universe pageant while on their global tour and fashion shows which feature local designers and Alta Moda fabrics.
